The Building Energy, Equity & Power (BEEP) Coalition formed at the end of 2020 with the goal of ensuring low-income residents and communities of color benefit from, and are not adversely impacted by, building decarbonization efforts in California. BEEP Coalition members include the Central California Asthma Collaborative (CCAC); the Center on Race, Poverty & the Environment (CRPE); Central Valley Air Quality Coalition (CVAQ); Emerald Cities Northern California (ECC); Leadership Counsel for Justice & Accountability (LCJA); Local Clean Energy Alliance (LCEA); Physicians for Social Responsibility - Los Angeles (PSR-LA); People Organizing to Demand Environmental and Economic Rights (PODER); and Strategic Actions for a Just Economy (SAJE).

Our members are trusted leaders with long-standing relationships in communities across California. We are already working with communities to identify and confront barriers to building decarbonization and are building a strong foundation for statewide policy through coordination with the California Air Resources Board (CARB) and the California Energy Commission (CEC). Our work is guided by Energy Justice Principles and our Preliminary Report and is directly informed by Black, Indigenous, and People of Color (BIPOC) communities who have experienced historic disinvestment and are at greater risk for negative climate, housing, and health impacts. While members also advocate as individual organizations, our collective strength exceeds the sum of our parts, and we are ready to build from and amplify our work to advocate for community-led equitable building decarbonization.
